What is Variable Imaging?
Variable imaging is the merging of a database with a graphics file to
create a custom document for an audience of one. It can take many formats
from a simple letter with a name and address change on each letter, to
a more complex billing statement from a medical group to a single end
user. Each document is unique, because the data for the recipient is pulled
from the database and printed onto the document. A monthly statement pulls
transaction history from the database and prints that account in a pre-formatted
version to create your statement, as opposed to the next customer. Many
times, the new product is an enhanced version of the older continuous
form printed onto a single cut sheet. The address fields are pre-sorted
by CASS software for postal discount and barcode application in addition
to the standardized address.
Why Does the Customer Benefit?
Many customers process their own statements in-house, utilizing pre-printed
forms and then burst, stuff, seal and process the envelopes for mailing.
However, most offices are not set up to efficiently process statements,
and its an interruption to their core function. Outsourcing this
function allows our clients to realize many benefits:
- No capital outlay is required; existing software is utilized.
- Inventory management is reduced or eliminated.
- The statement is more graphically pleasing and user friendly.
- Laser versions are more professional looking than impact printed versions.
- Return rate often increases.
- Inserts and collateral material can be easily incorporated.
- Postal costs are typically reduced dramatically.
- Overall cost is less with greater customer efficiency and resource
allocation.
